How to host the ultimate Bluey birthday party

Hi, I’m Bree – a Queanbeyan writer, mum and shopping fanatic.

As a mother of three, ranging in ages from 17 right down to one, I know a thing or two about planning birthday parties. Themes over the years have ranged from The Wiggles to Cars and Frozen, but I’ve now officially entered the Bluey phase of parenting (no complaints here!)

I took to Majura Park Shopping Centre before my baby’s first birthday party to find everything I needed for her party – I’ve done the hard yakka so you too can have a ripper Bluey party!

Step 1: The Bluey colour scheme

Probably the most important decision to make for any party is the theme/colour scheme. For me, it was simple – I stuck to royal blue, light blue and orange, using Bluey and Bingo as my colour inspiration.

I found the most gorgeous and cost-effective decorations at Homebase.

Step 2: Incorporate games and activities

Pass-the-parcel and musical statues are always on the agenda at my parties, but I wanted some creative activities as well. My nieces love anything art-related, so I picked up some painting and craft experiences for the older kids.

For the littlies, activity books and stickers kept them busy while the adults relaxed and enjoyed the food.

Step 3: Get snacking

While I booked professional caterers for the hot food, I also needed snacks for the kids to enjoy during the party – as well as treats for the lolly bags.

Our awesome cake featured Bluey sprinkles and a ‘One’ cake topper, both from Latorta.

I chose a variety of retro and popular chocolates, lollies and chips in the colour scheme of the party. They not only tasted good, but added to the Bluey aesthetic.

Step 4: Look for value for money

I had a budget I needed to stick to and took the time to look around Majura Park Shopping Centre to find what I needed.

I found amazing bargains at Homebase and Big W, and some one-of-a-kind items at speciality stores like Toymate and Latorta.

Step 5: A themed birthday gift

I found some super cute Bluey-themed presents that ranged from play tents to clothes to light up snuggle toys. All at Majura Shopping Centre of course!

The most important thing about a Bluey party (besides getting Instagram-worthy pics) is to relax, soak it all in, enjoy celebrating the day with loved ones, and give loads of smoochy kisses to the birthday puppy!
